Please see attached this weeks edition of Spotlight. The headline story is the new White Paper issued by the Government on ‘Giving’ as part of the Big Society. Other stories include new legislation on protecting older people, new health provision for safeguarding children, the next round of Free Schools applications, a new online tool to tackle Empty Homes and the Mary Portas review of High Streets up and down the Country.

Here is a quick summary of the Cheshire West and Chester Local elections which were held on May 5th 2011. Full details of all the election results can be found on the Cheshire West and Chester website.
In brief:
- The Conservative Party gained 42 seats.
- The Labour Party took 32 seats.
- The Liberal Democrat Party retained one seat.
- A total of 113,482 votes were cast – seeing a high turnout of 44.7%.
